If you or your staff are responsible for caring for clients with a tracheostomy tube you should be able to identify which type of tracheostomy tube the patient has in situ and be familiar with the care and potential problems that may arise in the care and support needs of the individual.
This information packed classroom based tracheostomy training is theory only and is aimed at any healthcare professionals with responsibility of providing tracheostomy care and support to individuals, the content and delivery of this theory session allows learners to explore and familiarise themselves with tracheostomy, understand the difference between tracheostomy and laryngectomy, whilst developing a knowledge of the equipment and procedures involved in tracheostomy care including humidification, tube changes and managing secretions.
It is important to note that whilst Osburn Academy are able to deliver theory based learning we are unable to provide practical assessment and workplace competencies of staff, this must be provided by a suitably qualified person identified as competent to do so by the employer. Completion of this session does not in any way qualify healthcare assistants to carry out any tracheostomy care in the workplace but does provide a basis to begin developing knowledge and understanding of needs and responsibilities.
A certificate of attendance will be issued on completion of the session along with an information and reference booklet of the session for staff to refer back to following the training.
