Safeguarding Policy (inc PREVENT)
Osburn Training Academy is committed to its responsibility to safeguard and protect the interests and welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk and to protect them from harm. We believe that all children, young people, and adults at risk have an equal right to protection from abuse regardless of gender, marital status, language, background, race, religion, colour, age, ability, disability, or sexual orientation and that their welfare is paramount in all the work we do.
We will aim to safeguard children, young people, and adults at risk by:
- Valuing, listening to and respecting all trainees and employees
- Adopting this policy and adhering to our associated procedures and code of conduct for staff
- Recruiting all staff and associates safely by ensuring that all the necessary DBS and previous employee checks are made
- We will always carry out our duty to respond to potential abuse of neglect of adults, or children report any suspicion of child abuse to the local authority and to assist any subsequent investigation.
- Sharing information about safeguarding and child protection
- Providing effective management of employees and partners through supervision, support, training and recording.
Confidentiality is an important principle that enables people to feel safe in sharing their concerns and to ask for help. However, the right to confidentiality cannot be absolute with regards to safeguarding. Sharing relevant information with the right people at the right time is vital to good safeguarding practice as a failure to share information could cause the safety of a child, adult or vulnerable person to be compromised.
All records of any safeguarding concerns will be kept secure and only accessed by essential named persons.
3 We Care
If a learner goes missing from the workplace or fails to attend their planned training this is a potential indicator of abuse or neglect. In order to safeguard all learners wellbeing all members of staff who are missing from training without explanation will receive a call and a subsequent email.
If we receive no response a call will be made to their employer informing them of the learner’s failure to attend so that they can follow their policies and procedures to safeguard their employee.
When booking a course, employers are asked to contact Osburn Training Academy in the event that a learner is missing from work and will thefore be absent from training.
3 PREVENT agenda
Osburn Training Academy recognises the Governments concern that the UK continues to face a threat from terrorism. One security concern is the potential for British citizens and residents to become radicalised and commit acts of violence or terrorism. Disclosures by individuals of their exposure to the extremist actions, views or materials of others
- Graffiti symbols, writing or art work promoting extremist messages or images.
- Individuals accessing extremist material online, including through social networking sites.
- Reports of changes in behaviour, or actions and requests for assistance.
- Local authority services, and police reports of issues affecting our community
- Individuals voicing opinions drawn from extremist ideologies and narratives.
- Use of extremist or ‘hate’ terms to exclude others or incite violence.
- Intolerance of difference, whether secular or religious or, in line with our equalities policy, views based on, but not exclusive to, gender, disability, sexuality, ethnicity or culture.
- Attempts to impose extremist views or practices on others.
Osburn Training Academy commit to follow any locally agreed procedure as set out by the Local Authority and the Local Safeguarding Children Board’s agreed processes and criteria for safeguarding individuals vulnerable to extremism and radicalisation.
